"Reviving a community that is better off dead"

The Basics

At the bottom of the totem pole, you have the pub. While we can all enjoy a good pub now and then, its not why we play this game. There is no goal, no competition, no organization, and as a result no motivation. In order to improve on this mundane style of play, we organize ourselves into clans and hold scrims. A race to see which team can get 16 wins first adds a fresh element to the game and makes it more enjoyable. But like the pub, our scrims have become dull. The difference between winning and losing is negligible because there are no long-term goals to invest in. So its not surprising that the community suffers in a response to this lack of competition. My intentions are to take the competition to the next level by further organizing the community and providing a long-term goal to strive for. This will add an edge to the everyday scrim, because instead of just disappearing, each scrim will be apart of a bigger picture.

Ranking system

The core concept of the SKG is centralization with increased competition. While this is whats most important, I decided to implement a unique ranking system to add a fresh twist to the game. This is just a prototype system, which could've been designed a thousand different ways. Theoretically, it solves the prior dilemma between Official and Fun scrims. The old record system was a binary, do or die scenario. You either Officialed (the equivalent of a 10 point scrim in the SKG), or Practice scrimmed (a 0 point scrim). The decision, being made after the match up is known, has an obvious flaw. Why would you accept an official you knew you were going to lose? The offensive team (the team asking for the scrim), also held an advantage in the sense that they would only ask with a top line up. This would put pressure on the defensive team, possibly forcing an unfair match up; not due to clan composition, but to poor timing. This timing issue offsets an accurate definition of which team is better, and shouldn't be a primary factor.

The SKG's new point system perfectly balances each scrim. In the previous scenario, instead of just defaulting to a pointless fun scrim (as it most often did), a compromise is automatically reached resulting in a mediocre-weighted scrim (A 10 point wager vs. a 1 point wager results in a 6 point scrim). One team wanted a lot of value on the scrim, the other didn't want any, so they will both get a scrim of average value. While this cut-down-the-middle scrim exists, both extremes still remain in the picture. If both teams wish to put it all the on the line, a 10 point scrim (20% of your total points) also exists. And of course if both teams are cold and just want a good practice match, a laid-back 1 point scrim will barely alter the records. Either way, you get the best of both worlds.
